North Cowichan donating old fire truck for good cause

North Cowichan is donating an old fire truck to Firefighters Without Borders Canada.

Mayor Jon Lefebure says Council agreed at a meeting that the 1984 Mack Pumper could be put to greater use elsewhere.

“Our fire chiefs agreed that this was a really good place to send our old fire truck. We have sold some in the past four a few thousand dollars but this seemed like a very good thing to do. In the past, I know that some trucks ended up in South America.”

Lefebure says the municipality has a program that prevents any fire trucks, that are 25 years or older, from being used in service.

He says some countries can benefit from using an older truck which has nothing wrong with it outside of just being an older model.
