Cowichan Valley baseball legend gets field named after him

A North Cowichan baseball legend now has a field named after him in Chemainus.

The municipality’s mayor, Jon Lefebure, says Council decided to honour Larry Irving’s 50 plus years of dedication to the sport by immortalizing his name in that community.

He says Babe Ruth Diamond is now Larry Irving Field.

Irving coached several championship teams that took part in tournaments in Canada and the United States. He passed away late last year at the age of 72.
