It was a petition that prompted the Transportation Ministry to study a bridge to Gabriola Island; and now there’s a petition aiming to stop it.
Nanaimo North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley and NDP Transportation Critic Claire Trevena of North Island presented the petition in the Legislature on Monday.
Trevena says the more than 2-thousand signatures show strong opposition to a bridge, but also something else.
Routley points out that a long-standing Islands Trust policy opposes bridges linking the Gulf Islands to the main Island, each other or the mainland.
