North Cowichan/ Duncan RCMP locked down Drinkwater Elementary in North Cowichan earlier this afternoon…after getting a call about a shooter in the building.
Students were already out after an early dismissal, but police had to isolate teachers while they did a full search of the building.
Corporal Krista Hobday says people in the neighbourhood were also a big help during the emergency.
Hobday says the call came from outside the school, and the investigation is now focused on tracing the source.
She says RCMP are treating this as a likely “mischief” case, and whoever placed the call could face charges.
