MLAs debate support for “value added” manufacturing

Deputy NDP forests critics, and local MLAs, Doug and Bill Routley are trying to convince the government to do more to support so-called “value added” businesses in the sector..

During a debate at the Legislature, Doug Routley of Nanaimo North Cowichan, accused the Liberals of letting forestry wither on their watch.

Cowichan Valley’s Bill Routley says that’s a change from the days of one of the Island’s legendary entrepreneurs.

The government says value-added, and forestry in general in BC is doing fine, with forest-related products now making up more than 35 per cent of BC’s total exports.
