AVICC resolution could change landscape of mining permits in BC

The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities wants the province to cancel mining permits as well as deny future applications that clash with local zoning bylaws.

Ian Morrison is an area director with the Cowichan Valley Regional District…which took the issue to AVICC.

Shelley Balme recently got a gravel pit permit for her Cowichan Valley farm…and she is not happy about the idea of losing it.

Another company’s permit to dump toxic soil near Shawnigan Lake could also be impacted.

But before anything happens, the Union of BC Municipalities needs to approve the AVICC resolution and the province has to agree.
