Routley wants to see firm date for Shawnigan soil, water testing

Environment Minister Mary Polak says the province will be doing soil and water testing around a controversial contaminated soil dump in Shawnigan Lake… she just can’t say when.

Polak promised the testing during a recent meeting with the Shawnigan Residents Association and the area’s CVRD Director.

When Cowichan Valley MLA Bill Routley asked about the follow-up at the Legislature Monday, Polak said the details are being worked out and CVRD officials will take part.

Routley says he’s concerned there’s no date for the testing yet, “… given that local residents are saying leaching has already occurred at the site,” but Polak denies there’s been any delay.
