Derelicts, soil dumping on the agenda as NDP’s Mulcair makes another visit to the Island

NDP leader Tom Mulcair tackled the issue of a permit to dump contaminated soil near Shawnigan Lake on his Vancouver Island swing Thursday.

Mulcair made stops in Ladysmith and Mill Bay, and his comments come on the heels of a big protest against the South Island Aggregates plan in Victoria on Wednesday

He says it’s an issue that should be dealt with by the Harper Government.


Mulcair made appearances with NDP candidates and outgoing Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder. He says he’s baffled that Crowder’s recently defeated bill on derelict vessels only got the support of one Conservative. He says the government needs to show leadership on the issue
