Island team part of world record tree planting attempt

Tree planters from the Island Coastal Region are taking part in something pretty unusual Wednesday.

They’ll be joining more than a thousand other planters across North America to try to set a Guinness World Record.

It’s being organized by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, which sets standards for responsible forest management and supports forestry research.

SFI’s Elizabeth Woodworth says they’re breaking new ground.

Woodworth says the idea of going for a record came up as a way to mark their 20th anniversary, and highlight their work.

In our area teams from Island Timberlands in Qualicum Beach, and Double-A Trading in Sechelt are going to be joining the attempt to plant around 40-thousand trees.
