Three year old hurt, 14 left homeless after blaze on Chemainus First Nation reserve

Investigators are looking into the cause of a blaze on a Chemainus First Nation reserve that left 14 people homeless early Thursday morning.

The fire took place on Hulnutztun Road, which is north of Ladysmith, and started around 4am.

Jason DeJong is the North Oyster department’s fire chief. He says everybody got out, however, a three-year-old boy suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

DeJong says the damage to the two-story building is roughly $200,000 dollars…and that’s not including all the personal belongings that were destroyed.
