Nanaimo RCMP nab wanted man after wild car chase

A 31-year-old man is in custody, facing a long list of charges, after he rammed several police cars and tried to escape by jumping in the Nanaimo River.

Constable Gary O’Brien the man is well-known to police, and he was wanted for several offenses in the Duncan and Ladysmith areas.

O’Brien says the Island District General Investigation Section gave them a heads up Thursday about where the suspect was.

O’Brien says the man abandoned the car and jumped into the river in an attempt to escape but he injured his ankle.

He was arrested and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face a multitude of charges.
