Wildfire flare-ups across BC are sending smoke and ash into the Cowichan Valley

Smoke and ash in the air are causing concerns all along the Island and the south coast this morning..

The Coastal Fire Centre says there are no new fires reported in the Cowichan Valley region, but Fire Information Officer Ellie Dupont says there are six active fires in the Coastal zone and an unusual weather pattern is spreading the smoke.

Officials at the CVRD say the smoke in the Valley is mainly from the Dog Mountain fire near Sproat Lake (pictured above, courtesy Coastal Fire Centre) and the Old Sechelt Mine fire on the Sunshine Coast.

They’re posting regular updates at cvrd.bc.ca
