Coastal Fire Centre: Lizard Lake fire is 55 per cent contained

The Lizard Lake wildfire is now more than half contained.

The Coastal Fire Centre says the blaze, which is burning about 27 kilometres southwest of Cowichan Lake, has grown to an estimated 393 hectares but it’s also 55 per cent contained.

A smoke advisory for the Cowichan Valley and the Port Renfrew area is still in place due to windy conditions.

Officials say the Pacific Marine Highway remains closed, however, crews have cleared the road and will begin hauling the wood and debris away on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Clowhom fire in the Salmon Inlet, which is north of Sechelt, remains at 30 hectares.
