People still visiting Cowichan Valley during rainy, wildfire seasons

Whether its rain, shine or even fire…people continue to make their way to the Cowichan Valley.

The Cowichan Regional Visitor Centre’s Kirsty Grant says tourism numbers didn’t take a hit during the summer’s wildfire season, and shouldn’t during the rainy fall and winter months.

Grant says, despite wildfire concerns, the centre saw a 104 per cent increase in July and August in comparison to the past couple of summers.

She says having campfire bans isn’t ideal but tourists understand the need for restrictions. Grant says people would also be re-routed to areas not threatened by wildfires.
