A 15-year-old teen is in critical condition at Victoria General Hospital after being hit by a minivan this past weekend in Duncan.

Police say witnesses told them the boy was struck around 11pm on Saturday, November 7th, after trying to jaywalk across the TCH by the Travelodge Silver Bridge Inn.

They has he was airlifted to hospital after the accident, however, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say the driver, a 29-year-old Duncan resident, was heading northbound in the left lane and wasn’t able to avoid the teen when he stepped off the cement median.

They say a preliminary investigation has revealed the driver was not speeding and alcohol wasn’t involved.
