Local teacher wins Royal Canadian Geographical Society award

A teacher from Chemainus Secondary is getting national recognition for her work.

Janet Ruest of Cobble Hill (picture courtesy RCGS) has won the Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s 2015 Innovation in Geography Teaching Award.

She says she is humbled to get the award, however, there are a lot of great teachers out there that don’t get the attention they deserve.


Ruest will be be flying to Ottawa this week to receive her award, which includes a 25 hundred dollar cash prize that is split between the winner and a donation in their name to support geography education.
