South Island Traffic Services: It’s time to get snow tires

A snowy Thursday morning was a good reminder that it’s time to get winter tires if you haven’t already.

South Island Traffic Services’ Andre Dentoom says staying off the roads is the best way to avoid an accident, however, if you have to drive make sure you go slower than usual and have good tires.

He says if you happen to lose control it’s important to keep your cool.

The Ministry of Transportation says proper tires should have a Mountain Snowflake, or Mud and Snow symbol, as well as a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm.

You can be fined as much $121 for not following BC’s winter tire rules.
