SIA protesters set up blockade in Nanaimo; March planned on Tuesday in Shawnigan lake

A group of about 50 protesters set up a blockade on Monday morning at Duke Point in Nanaimo.

Activist Chad Henderson says the area is like a crossroads for two major environmental issues affecting the island.

Henderson says a barge loaded with soil destined for the South Island Aggregates facility docked on Monday morning, but trucks scheduled to take the soil to Shawnigan Lake were rescheduled because of the protest.

Also, there will be a community march on Tuesday morning at 6:45 near the SIA site on Stebbings Road in Shawnigan Lake.
