Ransomware hits Cowichan Valley computers

The latest troubling development on the internet is a version of ransomware and it has hit a number of businesses in the Cowichan Valley.
Nathan Schock, a senior technician at Teky Technical Services says the ransomware seems to be coming in in the form of an email with the subject line that says something that makes it appear the attachment is a resume.
He says the damage when you open the file in the email is instant…..
He says the file is being delivered with javascript and so any files with the extension .js should not be opened.
He adds its also a good idea to keep current backups of all of your documents because the damage done from the ransomware is such that the only remedy is to recover from backups.
