The saying goes, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” but whether or not that is happening for the residents of Shawnigan Lake is the big question.
The community has banded together in an effort to stop the dumping of contaminated soil in the watershed.
Today, the community is hosting media from, not only the province but from across the country, providing helicopter tours around the site and a walking tour while dozens of demonstrators line the roadside.
Speaking for the community, Sonia Furstenau says they are being heard and eventually the province has got to listen……
Bruce Fraser, the president of the Shawnigan Basin Society says the watershed is under an amazing amount of pressure….
He says the most screaming urgent issue, however, is the contaminated soil site.
