Avalanches do happen on the Island

A group called the Vancouver Island Avalanche Centre Society has been providing information about the potential for an avalanche on Vancouver Island for 9 years now.

Jan Neuspiel, the lead forecaster for the Island Avalanche Bulletin issued by the Society says there are plenty of avalanche events in the Island mountains……

Neuspiel says there have not been any fatalities as a result of an avalanche on the Island but there have been injuries.
The Society puts out a bulletin 3 times a week with regards to the avalanche ratings in our region but Neuspiel says, really, anyone who heads out to the mountains should invest in a two day training course.
