Nanaimo police find handgun in search

The Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team was called in to help RCMP in Nanaimo make an arrest this weekend.

The ERT was called because police had reason to believe the man, who was a suspect in an assault that happened in late December, had a handgun and may be violent.

After gaining entry to the house, in the 1000 block of Haliburton Street, the 33 year old Nanaimo man was arrested without incident.

Police found a replica Glock handgun and a small amount of marijuana, cocaine and heroin in the house.

The suspect was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and will be back in court at a later date.
