North Cowichan is planning to put LED lights in 650 streetlights in the Municipality before the end of 2016.
Dave Conway, the director of engineering and operations, says the project recently got underway as 117 lights were replaced in the Trillium Terrace and Kingsview Road areas.
Conway says the project will save about 272 hundred kilowatt hours of electricity per year…and around 743 thousand dollars over the next 15 years.
He says the remaining 533 lights will be installed before the end of the year.
