Protection for a global treasure

The Great Bear Rainforest is a global treasure, and under the new landmark agreement, it will be better protected.

Premier Christy Clark says it covers 6.4 hectares, and is the largest intact rainforest in the world.

Clark says the remaining 15% will help support coastal logging and economic opportunity for first nation, and continue their tradition to make a living off the land.

As well they’ve signed a reconciliation protocol that includes a greater stake in the forest sector, and an end of the grizzly hunt in coastal First Nation traditional territories.
