Pay equity for women

The NDP are celebrating a victory in the House of Commons.
MP Sheila Malcolmson introduced a motion yesterday to lay the groundwork for tackling poverty across Canada and ending discrimination against women when it comes to equal pay for work of equal value….
The motion was supported by all parties except the Conservatives.
In Canada, women working full time, year round, make only 77% of what men earn for work of equal value and there are signs the gap might be growing. Canada ranks 30th out of 34 OECD countries for wage equity.

Today, Malcolmson will table a private member’s bill.

The bill would amend the Canada Shipping Act and compel the government to create regulations for the removal, disposition or destruction of abandoned vessels or wrecks.
