Police investigate sexual assault in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the sexual assault of a teenaged girl.

It happened Friday afternoon along the railway tracks, behind the Islamic Cultural Centre, near the intersection of Kennedy and Farquar Street.

The girl told police she was walking along the tracks when a man approached her from behind and pulled down her pants before running off.

Police say this is the second similar sexual assault in the same area.

The first happened in early December.

Police say given the location and similarity in description of the suspect, it seems likely both incidents were carried out by the same individual.

He is described as a white man in his 30’s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim or skinny with a reddish goatee type beard.
