Cowichan Cat Rescue a successful program

No one in the City of Duncan, other than registered cat rescue organizations, is allowed to be feeding feral cats.
That’s the gist of an amendment to the Animal Regulation and Impounding Bylaw made by the City.
The original bylaw, passed in November, prohibited anyone from feeding feral cats, but a complaint from Cowichan Cat Rescue resulted in some backpedalling.
That’s because the organization sets up feeding stations in an effort to trap feral cats.
Jean Hamilton with Cowichan Cat Rescue says the bylaw amendment allows recognized organizations like hers to continue to feed the feral cats for its purposes and the program has been very successful……
Cowichan Cat Rescue feeds and traps feral cats, then spays or neuters them, tattoos and vaccinates them before letting them go again where they found them.
