The pier at the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre is in need of a major restoration.
Telus is giving the Cowichan Wooden Boat Society $5,000 to kickstart the Pier Restoration Fund.
The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre s pier was built in 1925 by Standard Oil as a fuel loading dock.
An engineer s survey recently commissioned by the society found the pier to be in need of significant repair which will cost an estimated $500,000 to complete.
Every year, more than 15,000 people visit the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre to take a stroll down the pier, view the maritime displays, build a boat at the children s boatbuilding station and get a better view of the bay and estuary.
