Police seek witnesses to early morning fatality

RCMP are asking any witnesses to an early morning incident on Highway 1 near the intersection of Cedar Road, north of Ladysmith around 5 o’clock this morning to come forward.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates a pick up truck traveling northbound on Highway 1 was being followed by a tractor trailer when the truck swerved to avoid a man who was standing in the middle of the fast lane.

The tractor trailer unit was unable to avoid the man in the road and hit him, throwing him to the side of the road.

Both drivers remained at the scene along with a number of other motorists who tried to provide medical attention to the pedestrian, but he was deceased.

The pedestrian was a 23 year old man from Ladysmith.

No name has been released.
