14 Directors of the Cowichan Valley Regional District attended the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities conference in Nanaimo.
Two CVRD Directors were elected to the AVICC Board with Mary Marcotte assuming the position of first Vice-President and Ian Morrison elected Director at Large.
Workshops and topics that came up at the event ranged from derelict vessels, rural road pathways, road maintenance, to the closure of federal facilities.
Four resolutions, put forward by CVRD were passed and will be forwarded to the Union of BC Municipalities convention in September.
They include a ban on single-use plastic shopping bags and changing the way the public is notified about hearings.
Another resolution asks the province to assess the effectiveness of allowing out-of-scope professionals to sign off on work that was traditionally done by provincial inspectors.
And a resolution encouraged the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to consider cycling opportunities in planning sessions.
