Money for conservation

The Habitat Conservation Foundation gave out grants to several conservation projects in the Cowichan Valley.
The Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team received 29 thousand for their work on reintroducing the western bluebird to the Valley, and the BC Conservation Foundation received 48 thousand to identify and restore degraded habitat on the Cowichan Lake shoreline and the Lower Cowichan River.
CEO of the Habitat Conservation Foundation Brian Springinotic says there were 150 thousand dollars in grants handed out in and around the Cowichan Valley.
Springinotic says almost 400 thousand dollars in grants were handed out across the Island and between 5 to 6 million in BC.
