Fire prohibition begins at noon Friday

Effective at noon Friday (May 13) Category 2 open fires will be prohibited in most areas of the Coastal Fire Centre s jurisdiction.

Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre says it’s to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety….

MacPherson says the fire rating is moderate for most of the Island and the Sunshine Coast except for an area south of Nanaimo, around Port Alberni and up around Campbell River.

MacPherson says some local governments may already have their own restrictions in place.
This prohibition will remain in effect until Oct. 21st.
