Parents encouraged to have kids immunized

The Public Health Agency of Canada is encouraging parents with kids going to kindergarten in September to have their children immunized right now.

Medical Health Officer for Coastal Health, Dr. Paul Martiquet says parents shouldn’t wait until the last minute, and if they do it now, they won’t have to worry about it when September comes around.

He also says right now is the perfect time because parents can also protect their kids if they have a planned summer vacation.

Children who got their infant shots will now need two more shots to protect themselves against the likes of the Measle, Mumps and the chicken pox.

Martiquet says the recent mumps outbreak is another reminder to parents that these diseases are active in our community.
