Emergency exercise in Port Alberni

Multiple agencies and emergency crews are gathered together in Port Alberni for Western Canada’s first full-scale earthquake and tsunami response exercise…

Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto says this is a way to test out B-C’s emergency response plan…

Yamamoto says about 600 people will be involved. The training runs until Friday.

The manager of public safety with the CVRD, Conrad Cowan, says the exercise is an important one and the District is sending a couple of people to participate…..
Cowan says he will attend the exercise and expects to see logistics, mass medical care, the public information aspect, operational communications all operating in tandem.
He says in a couple of years time the Cowichan Valley community will be running its own exercise to test the training of those who would be involved should a disaster strike.
