Many residents in the Cowichan Valley deserve a gold star for their recycling efforts, and now the CVRD will be handing them out! Staff are auditing curbside recycling to check for plastic bags and other contaminants, and if none are found, residents will find a gold star sticker on their tote.
Jason Adair with CVRD Recycling and Waste Management explains some of the issues they face when contaminants are mixed in with other recyclables in the curbside program.

If you include contaminants in your recycling tote, the CVRD will hand out an “oops” sticker, with information on what went wrong, and a link to their website where you can find more information.
Although plastic bags and plastic wrap are no longer allowed in the curbside recycling progra, new items have been added to the list.
