Vancouver Islander Reacts to UK’s Decision to Leave EU

Vancouver Islanders are reacting to UK voting to leave the European Union.

Cowichan Valley resident Simon Downs is originally from London, and says he is extremely happy with the results of the vote. Downs says its good to see the power of democracy.


Despite being happy with the results, Downs says it won’t be easy going forward.


Justin Trudeau says Canada is in a good position to weather the storm in the wake of Britain voting to leave the European Union. The Prime Minister says last nights vote will increase global economic uncertainty, but Canada will work with its world partners to maintain stability. Trudeau says Canada will continue to have strong ties with both the UK and the EU.

The votes fell 52 to 48 percent in favour of UK leaving the EU.
