A busy morning for North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP today (Tues).
They made an appearance near where the protesters were trying to prevent a tree from being destroyed on James Street at the Island Savings Centre.
But it wasn’t for anything that was happening at that event.
There had been a report of a man with a weapon but the situation was resolved quickly without incident.
No other details about the call have been released.
Police are not involved with the protesters at the site of the protest of the old maple tree at the Island Savings Centre.
However, Corporal Krista Hobday of the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment says they will be in attendance to keep the peace, if necessary.
She says the only time police will get involved is if there is an injunction issued with an enforcement component attached to it.
A woman was struck by a van near the Tim Hortons on Trunk Road in Duncan.
The incident happened after the woman stumbled onto the roadway during the noon hour today (Tues).
Corporal Krista Hobday, with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment says the woman sustained a significant head injury and was airlifted to the hospital in Victoria.
The age of the woman hasn’t been released.
The incident is still under investigation and there’s no word on whether or not charges will be laid.
