The Cowichan Valley Basket Society is turning to the public to help them get through the summer months, as donations from past food drives are reaching low levels.

Manager of the local food bank and soup kitchen Colleen Fuller says every summer, there is an increase of families coming to use their services.

Fuller says they are looking for all types of donations including non-perishable items, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy, as well as cash donations to help provide nutritional and balanced hampers.
