Cassidy Hotel burns to the ground

If your commute takes you south of Nanaimo, you will notice a difference in the landscape.
The Cassidy Inn burned overnight.
The Cedar, North Oyster and Ladysmith Fire Departments responded to the fire.
The building was under a June 8th demolition order from the Regional District of Nanaimo board, but that order was suspended at a reconsideration hearing requested by the property’s owner.
The board had ordered the building’s issues be fixed in 30 days.
The Cassidy Inn Hotel had been featured in the 2013 movie Man of Steel.
The building is a total loss.
