SAR exercise in Cowichan Valley

Rescue on the Rock is all set to go beginning Saturday.

The Cowichan Valley will be hosting Search and Rescue members for a major training exercise.

The event features, what organizers are calling a significant ground Search and Rescue scenario but members will also be practicing some of their other skills including rope rescue, swiftwater and man-tracking.

Arin Reim with Cowichan Search and Rescue says this is the firs time the event is being held in the Cowichan Valley. This will make the exercises more challenging for visiting teams, as they are unfamiliar with the environment.
The event includes dog handlers, equestrian members and other agencies like Civilian Air Search and Rescue, the Cowichan Valley Amateur Radio Society and the North Cowichan RCMP.
The particular exercise is a secret until the event gets underway but the general location for this year’s event is expected to be in the Skutz Falls area of the Cowichan River, near Lake Cowichan.
Rescue on the Rock is held every second year at various locations.
