The Maple Tree on James Street is scheduled to come down this Friday.
In memory of the tree, advocates have requested possibly a nursery log and a rooted shoot from the tree be incorporated into the new landscape with interpretive signage.
Over the past month, tree lovers gathered in efforts to protect the tree from being removed, as part of the plans to upgrade the parking lot at the Island Savings Centre.
Officials say the tree was deemed unsafe, and threatened the safety of people and their property.
