Pedestrian suffers life threatening injuries

A 56 year old Nanaimo woman had to be airlifted to Victoria after she was struck by a car in a crosswalk.
She had life threatening injuries.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at the intersection of Pine Street and Bruce Avenue in Nanaimo.

Police say the 25 year old woman driving the car was stopped at the stop sign and after checking for traffic she accellerated through the intersection where the victim was struck.

Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors and the investigation is continuing.
