The Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act will take effect today. The province says the amended Legislation was put in place to regulate e-cigarettes.
Under the act, retailers are only allowed to sell e-cigarettes to adults who are 19 or older.
The use of e-cigarettes is also banned on public and private school grounds, in indoor public spaces and workplaces.
It is also illegal for people to use e-cigarettes in vehicles when kids who are 16 years old or younger are present.
According to the province, one in five youth in Canada have tried an e-cigarette.
