Residents in North Cowichan can sign up for a newly upgraded eALERT service to be notified of local emergencies and critical incidents.
Manager of Operations Iain Bell says the old telephone notification system is being phased out – and this one is much more efficient.
The system will notify residents and local businesses of any events that are life threatening or urgent – including boil water advisories, flood or wildfire.
Online registration is available on the North Cowichan website – and anyone who was signed up under the old system must still re-register under the new one to receive future notifications.
