North Cowichan to look at Heritage Tree Bylaws

The Municipality of North Cowichan will be taking a look at existing tree protection bylaws in nearby communities.
Counciller Kate Marsh says it’s a good idea in light of recent events…..
She was referring to the Maple tree that was recently cut down at the Island Savings Centre to make way for improvements to the parking lot, but also because the tree was deemed unsafe.
Councillor Joyce Benson says it appears cutting down heritage trees won’t stop with the Maple tree….
North Cowichan staff will be looking at the tree protection bylaws in the City of Victoria, City of Duncan and City of Nanaimo.
