Hijacking in Nanaimo

Mounties are investigating after a man was confronted in his driveway, on Merlin Street in Nanaimo today (Tues) by another man with a gun.

Police say the victim had just pulled into his driveway around 11:30 when a suspect wearing a mask and carrying what was believed to be a firearm jumped into the victim’s truck.

There was a struggle, the suspect lost his mask and possession of the gun he was toting while the truck, which was in gear, drove into the house.

The struggle continued outside the truck before the suspect jumped back into it and took off.

Sargeant Sheryl Armstrong says police located the truck a short time later and followed the truck south of Nanaimo on the TransCanada Highway until the suspect pulled into the parking lot at Rutledge’s store in the Cedar area….

The 35 year old suspect was known to police.

The gun used in the incident turned out to be an imitation firearm.
