International Peace Day Wednesday

The Cowichan Valley is celebrating peace this week, as part of a global campaign for International Peace Day.
Members of the community are invited to share a message of peace on white flags that can be picked up at Portals in the Island Savings Centre. These flag kits are available for a small donation toward the installation of a peace pole in Duncan.
Sandy McPhearson is with the Peace Pole Art Project and says a local peace pole was designed to look like the crossing of two fiddle head ferns, and shares the meaning behind it.
McPherson says the community can join the celebration by hanging their peace flags at work or home, and contemplate peace.
