Gala to help women escape violence

Cowichan Women Against Violence Society are making progress toward their goal of building 20 safe housing units for women and children leaving abusive relationships.
The Society is hosting their annual Gala Fundraiser at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club with a buffet dinner, auctions, live music and dancing. Executive Director Jane Sterk says this housing project has been a goal for a long time.
The women will live in their own apartments at affordable rents for a year or two, until they can get their feet on the ground. Support staff will also be made available whether it be for advice on how to be a good renter, or assistance in legal, financial and emotional challenges that come with separation.
The gala takes place on November 5th.
