Development on Donnay Drive Moves Forward with Third Reading

A controversial development on Donnay Drive will move forward, after a close vote from North Cowichan Council.
The motion passed 4-3 to give third reading for the rezoning of three lots on Donnay Drive. This will allow the construction of a 39-unit housing project, just north of Maple Bay Elementary School.
Some neighbours on Maple Bay Road are opposed to this development, saying it will destroy the iconic character of the area, and the density is too high for the mostly rural neighbourhood.
Councillors Maeve Maguire, Kate Marsh and Rob Douglas voted in opposition to the project. Council’s fourth and final reading is expected within a few weeks.
