The I-Health system in Nanaimo will not be going away.
The Provincial patient safety and quality officer, who was in charge of reviewing the electronic health record system in Nanaimo, says there is the potential for errors when using the system but that steps can be taken to minimize risks.
Dr. Doug Cochrane has made 26 recommendations to improve the safety and efficiency of the system.
CEO for Island Health, Dr. Brendan Carr says in speaking with staff about the problems there was some misunderstanding about the system and the Authority is trying to address that….
Â
Carr says the next step will be to sit down with clinical and medical teams at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to review and prioritize the recommendations.
He says the system won’t be expanded until it is stabilizedÂ
in Nanaimo.
